Next year marks our fifth bushCONNECT, to be held on October 4-5, 2020, at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis. It takes a village to create bushCON and we’re looking for the partners who will co-create the experience and make it our best ever leadership and networking event!

In my role leading the Bush Fellowship applicant experience, I am often asked: What is a strong track record? When it comes to track record, many applicants talk about their record of success in terms of the positions, titles or awards they have earned. Yet, a strong track record is not just a list of degrees and accolades.

The Bush Foundation is looking to develop investment sourcing and initial screening processes that support our emerging impact investing ideas. We are seeking local consulting support to help design and implement these processes through a request for qualifications (RFQ) process. Deadline for proposals is Monday, July 22, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. Central.

So far in 2019 we've awarded Community Innovation grants to organizations all across our region, at different stages in their problem-solving process. They're working on environmental concerns, domestic violence prevention, education, veterans issues and more. 

My favorite TV series, “Diriliş: Ertuğrul,” has gotten me thinking about what we’ve lost in the shift from more collectivized communities — where people collaborated more naturally — to more individualism. 

Welcome to our sixth issue of bMag! This issue is full of stories about the people and ideas powering change across our region. We hope these stories make you feel good, but they aren’t “feel good” stories. What we really want is to inspire you to dream bigger about what’s possible for yourself and your communities.

In 2008, we launched an ambitious new strategy we called “Goals for a Decade.” We set three goals and developed Foundation-led initiatives to achieve them. Now, a decade has passed. While we’ve shared successes and challenges on each initiative along the way, we thought it was the right time to do an overall assessment of the strategy.
