At the Bush Foundation, part of our commitment to equity is in having open processes. To us, that means making sure our funding opportunities are publicly shared and that anyone who believes they are a fit has a chance to apply.
Headwaters Foundation for Justice, South Dakota Community Foundation and Strengthen ND will serve as our partners to design and operate community-based grant programs.
NDN Collective and Nexus Community Partners will steward the $100 million community trust funds to address wealth disparities caused by historic racial injustice.
Addressing the accumulated impact of generations of unjust race-based policies requires intentional counter-intervention. It requires restoration. It requires repair.
We are excited to welcome six new colleagues to the Bush Foundation! They bring an incredible array of experiences and perspectives, along with a deep commitment to make our region better for everyone.
Bush Fellows are bold in their belief that our world can be a better place. They pursue visions for large-scale, equitable changes that are critical to make our region work better for everyone.
We have engaged community partners in our grantmaking for many years – from asking community leaders to select Bush Fellows to funding local institutions to operate state-level versions of our Community Innovation grant programs. We want to build on this experience and do more. We are excited to announce two specific changes in this direction.
We need leaders working creatively to solve problems while addressing equity and justice. The inequities exposed by COVID-19, the reckoning around racial justice sparked by the murder of George Floyd and threats to Native sovereignty all underscore this fact.
