As I reflect on my experience as a new Fellow, I am compelled to share the transformative journey I have embarked upon. Over the past few months, I have delved into various aspects of my personal and professional life, learning valuable lessons about time management, self-exploration, and self-care. This learning log offers insights into these facets of my journey.
Time Management:
One of the most significant shifts I’ve made during my Fellowship is in the realm of time management. I’ve become acutely aware that time is a finite resource, and how I allocate it profoundly impacts my overall well-being and productivity. To become more intentional about my time, I’ve started making deliberate choices about who I spend time with. I’ve come to appreciate the value of surrounding myself with people who inspire and uplift me, those who align with my goals and aspirations. This newfound decisiveness has enabled me to create a more focused and enriching environment for personal and professional growth.
Self-Exploration:
Intrigued by the idea of understanding myself better, I embarked on a journey of self-exploration, particularly concerning my family lineage and roots. This exploration has been nothing short of enlightening. By retracing my ancestral heritage, I’ve gained a deeper sense of connection to my past, which has in turn provided clarity about my present and future. Learning about the struggles, triumphs, and traditions of my ancestors has helped me appreciate the resilience and cultural richness that flows through my veins. It’s a journey that continues to unfold, offering insights into my identity and purpose.
Self-Care:
Recognizing the importance of self-care, I’ve embraced practices that nourish my mind, body, and soul. Mindfulness has become a cornerstone of my daily routine. Whether it’s through reading, quiet reflection, or the simple act of being fully present in the moment, I’ve found solace in these mindful practices. Mindfulness extends to my everyday tasks, from savoring each bite during meals to engaging deeply in conversations and taking mindful walks in nature. I’ve learned that replenishing my energy is not a luxury but a necessity, and I’ve become more attuned to my body’s signals. While I’ve made significant progress in prioritizing sleep, I acknowledge there’s room for improvement in achieving a consistent and healthy sleep pattern.
Exploration in ML and AI:
In parallel to my personal growth, I’ve embarked on a fascinating journey into the realm of Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI). I’ve delved into the intricacies of ML algorithms, data analysis, and AI applications. This exploration has revealed the vast potential of these technologies, both in addressing societal challenges and raising questions about their ethical implications. I’ve been particularly drawn to the intersection of ML/AI and equity, recognizing that these technologies can either perpetuate or mitigate existing systems of inequities. This realization has ignited a passion within me to further study and work towards harnessing ML/AI for equitable and positive change in our world.
In conclusion, my journey as a Bush Fellow has been marked by profound personal growth and a commitment to continuous learning. The lessons I’ve learned about time management, self-exploration, and self-care have not only enriched my life but have also positioned me to make a more meaningful impact as a Fellow. As I move forward, I am eager to integrate these newfound insights into my projects and endeavors, with a particular focus on the intersection of ML/AI and equity.
This journey is ongoing, and I look forward to the continued exploration of self, the pursuit of knowledge, and the pursuit of positive change in the world. My journey as a Fellow has only just begun, and I am grateful for the support and opportunities that the Bush Foundation has provided along the way.
