I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since I began my journey as a Bush Fellow. The feeling of being a ‘newcomer’ has gradually faded, replaced by a deeper sense of integration and familiarity with the processes and people that define this experience. My learning journey has been a whirlwind of growth, challenges, and invaluable experiences. I returned to school and am excited to share that I’ll graduate on May 4th. The return to Metro State after some time was daunting at first, but it has proven to be an enriching step in my journey. Alhamdulillah (Praise God). The significance of this milestone in my journey is not just a personal triumph but a testament to the opportunities the Fellowship has opened up for me.
Embarking on my Bush Fellow journey, I have immersed myself in a dynamic and enriching learning experience marked by a deep commitment to personal and professional growth. The early days are packed with learning curves, and the pressure to catch up can be intense. Attending various conferences has broadened my learning process, each offering new perspectives and insights that have been crucial in shaping my understanding and approach to the work I am passionate about, which is RECOVERY!
Meeting with previous fellows has been another cornerstone of my journey. These interactions have been instrumental in providing a sense of continuity and community. Previous fellows, with their wealth of experience and insights, have acted as mentors and guides, helping me navigate the complexities of the fellowship and the broader implications of my work. Their journeys, challenges, and successes have been a source of inspiration and learning. I appreciate Kaltun Karani, Imam Makram El-Amin, and Jason Sole for sharing their experiences, strengths, and hope.
Throughout all these experiences, I have stayed humble, recognizing that every moment is a learning opportunity. Asking questions, seeking advice, and being open to feedback have been crucial in my development. This humility has not only helped me learn more effectively but has also enabled me to form meaningful connections with others who are equally committed to making a difference.
The Bush Fellowship has been a transformative journey filled with continuous learning, growth, and connections. It has challenged me to push beyond my limits while offering the support and resources needed to achieve my goals. As I continue on this path, I remain committed to staying humble, curious, and driven, always ready to learn and grow. Thank you.
